Scenes from 'A Fountain Sealed' - a new opera by Nathan Williamson and Thomas Walton
Set against the backdrop of the current split in the church, this new opera delves into attitudes to relationships and sexuality within a faith community, and the conflicts between human emotions, private faith and public image. With its timely and compelling subject matter and broad dramatic sweep, the work has received widespread attention from critics and performers alike in its early stages. This evening will see scenes of the piece presented in fully stages and orchestrated performance as part of its development towards full production in 2010-11.
Tickets £10 - for concert and refreshments or £50 including three course post-concert supper at the Swan, with donations to Southwold Lifeboat.

"The enthusiastic response to my various recitals in Southwold over the last few years prompted me to consider concerts here on a more regular basis.
I am delighted that these ideas have now come to fruition with the launch of the new Southwold Concert Series. The aim of the series is simple: music making of the very highest level ‘in your own back yard’.
I have always believed that a local, grass-roots connection between artist and audience, rather than the ‘top-down’ approach of many artists, leads to the most enjoyable and potent musical experiences. It needs no compromise on quality and results in more direct communication between the performer and listener. It is on this basis that we launch the Southwold Concert Series.
The catalyst behind it is the tremendous support of our sponsors: Spring and Adnams, each of whom lend their own expertise in a huge variety of ways. I am delighted that these local businesses are willing to offer their support and I am completely indebted to them all for their enthusiasm and commitment.
We plan to present regular events beginning in the Spring 2009. Each will contain a huge variety of vocal and instrumental works, performed by some of the finest young artists of their generation. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
I hope that this Concert Series will be the beginning of a wonderful musical resource in Southwold, and that you will enjoy all the music that we have to offer."
Nathan Williamson,
Artistic Director Southwold, October 2008
